Well, this is a Disney Plus for me. I love musicals and it had been a while since there had been any musical in movie theaters and I was delighted. Definitely does not live up to Mary Poppins - but what could? I still listen to the soundtrack album from time to time and watch the film about once a year. IMO it seems hastily made and edited compared to earlier Disney films. My mother listened to Helen Reddy albums often so I felt like she was already a friend.

I was two when Pete and his dragon hit theaters. I do not think my mom took me to see it. When I was learning to read, Little Long Playing Records were something my parents were more inclined to buy, and Pete's Dragon was one of my prized records. Abridged story on one side, I saw a Dragon on the other.

It's too long with too many songs. But it introduced me to Mickey Rooney (who I got to meet many years later). I will have a soft spot in my heart for it forever.
